Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, totally worn out and screaming,
"WOO HOO, what a ride!"

So, I was just wondering…

woman wondering

Here it is, late at night and I’m where I usually am at this hour. I’ve got my heating pad, the remote control and my laptop. The house is quiet and the pages load a lot faster now so this is a good time to catch up. I’m a night owl anyway and my kids can keep some late hours so I’m not going to bed for awhile. Unfortunately I don’t get work done as fast as I should and the minutes turn into hours before I know it.

I don’t have a strict routine, I just do what I can do when I can do it. We use to fight for the computer but my kids can use high speed internet everywhere but here so they don’t use it as much as I do. We’re still holding out hope that we’ll get that access here someday but I know it’s not likely when we live on an unpaved road in the boonies. But that’s a topic for another Wednesday…

Shortly after I get up in the morning I do like to check my email and the news to see what the early risers have to say. If I get the chance I head to blog land to see what else is happening. When I’m really lucky and I actually have a car of my own to drive that day (again, another story for another day) I load up my son’s laptop (mine’s still broken) and trek off to our lovely library to cozy up in a wonderful upholstered chair in front of the French doors and use the wifi. On the one hand, the pages load in a heartbeat so I should be able to get a lot accomplished on my blog but I also spend time visiting sites I don’t get to otherwise visit and watch videos, book trailers, and other things that I don’t otherwise get to watch and, well, you see where this is going don’t ya?

So, I was just wondering what kind of schedule do you keep when you’re using the computer? Do you even have one at all or do you just go wherever the links take you? I guess I don’t have much of a schedule myself, it’s more of a routine or just my habits. Where do you like to work – at home, at the office, at the nearest internet cafe? Go ahead and share. I promise I’m not going to tell your boss that you’re writing reviews and looking at YouTube while you’re on the clock!

  1. When I get up in the morning I go to my email first, then blogland. When I get home from work, I'm back checking email and the blogs until I go to sleep. In the evenings I don't mean to spend a long time on the computer, but time goes so fast and the next thing I know, it's time to go to sleep.

I need to find more time to read though. That seems to be best done on the days I'm not working which is only the weekend.

  2. First thing in the morning (after the coffee is made) and then hit or miss through the day - I don't work outside the home so it's not an issue.

  3. I wake up with my husband in the morning (he wakes up 2 hours before I have to leave for work) and I open my reader, gmail, and facebook.

I quickly check through facebook, then I move to gmail and check and respond to any emails that came in the night, and then I move to my reader strategically going through my folders until it's time for me to get ready for work.

When I get home from work, I boot up my netbook and bring it in the kitchen as I am cooking dinner. I multitask reading from my reader and cooking.

After dinner I spend about an hour or so updating all MY blogs for the next day.

The rest of the night I usually keep my computer on in the background, but that's only for incoming emails. I pretty much try to ignore it and spend time with the husband.

That's pretty much my computer use...in a very large nutshell!

  4. I really don't have a routine, but I always do my surfing at home. I have to admit that I would struggle without high speed internet, though.

  5. Hi Debbie, I know what you mean about living in the boonies (NB). I grew up living in the boonies and its not fun. So to make up for that I moved to another province (QC)and a huge city to boot LOL

I do all my internet surfing at home and I will bring my netbook to the library if my son has an activity and do some surfing that way.

Normal I wait until my son and DH have left for school/work before I get online. Once online its checking emails, facebook, and then my blog. Not that I am actually doing stuff on my blog but I will check the blogs I follow and go from there.

But shhh don't say anything to DH he doesn't think I am online that much during the day ;) LOL

  6. I'm so impressed that you have a nice schedule and space where you use the computer. I'm one of those who is just online all the time, so I don't have a set place.

I do have to admit to blogging and reading blogs at work. I honestly can justify it though. Being a librarian means I need to keep up with the latest and greatest books... what better way to do that besides reading blogs that are doing advance reviews?! I guess as long as I get everything else I'm supposed to do done, I don't see the problem with it :).

But when at home, I generally don't do much in the blogging world. I'm much to addicted to facebook and stuff to get involved with the blogs.

  7. I don't have a schedule, but I wish setting one up was possible. I leave before 5 am for work, so there's no way I'm going online when I get up. I do a bit of e-mail checking and surfing on my lunch break, but the bulk of my online activities are done in the evenings or weekends. But I've been so exhausted lately, I've been falling asleep before I can break out the laptop!

  8. Email and blog checks are first thing - as I have CNN on to see what's happening. I try to carve out a few hours over the day to catch up with my Googlereader, but I haven't been able to do that the past few weeks so I am very behind! I don't think I could manage without the high speed, though :)
