FINALLY! My first flower of the spring arrived! Three years ago I bought different colored pansies and planted them in pots and arranged them around my porches. A few must have escaped because since then I find pansies popping up in all kinds of places around my house. I rescue them and transplant them into a flower bed. These purple beauties keep coming back and this year they were the first to make an appearance at my house. Welcome - and it's about time!

 It's still cold here and we still have snow on the ground. Ugh. I hate to be a whiner, and the weather here can change in a heartbeat, but last year was a remarkably mild March and it spoiled me. We had a record high temp of 75 degrees on 3/18/12! I know spring will be here soon so in the meantime I'll post some of my photos from last year. These are the things that bring me so much happiness and I'm anxiously awaiting their arrival!

It's official!

I think spring is really here. Winter lasted forever and we've had plenty of snow in April, even a few flakes mixed with the rain on Friday, but Saturday was beautiful! We walked the dogs, did a little yard work, and relaxed on the patio. And then it was time to bring out the sacred hammock. I think I heard the angels singing!

Although the coming week doesn't look like it will have terrific weather, it's better than what we've had. Hammock season has begun!

Our spring babies!

Last month we noticed that a bird had built a perfectly formed nest in the grapevine wreath hanging on the side of our house. Although there is a muddy mess on the siding we left it alone to see what would happen. About a week later there were four blue eggs.









In a very short time there were four teeny, tiny, scrawny, bald, ugly baby birds. Really ugly. But their mama still loved them.
After only a week those ugly babies are now cute little birdies with feathers. The nest is looking a little crowded so we're thinking they may need siderails on their nest. The mama probably isn't going to take us up on the offer though. Safety first!
