Home libraries

In today's issue of Shelf Awareness (1/18/13) there was a link to some amazing photos of Beautifully Organized: Home Libraries in apartment therapy (1/14/13). Of course there are some gorgeous designs that make me drool and here's just a few of them. These rooms aren't exactly my decorating style (or in my budget!) but I love the ideas. Do any of them appeal to you?

Love these bookstores!

In March, I posted a link to some amazing "reused libraries".  Today I saw photos of buildings for books that are even more impressive! Shelf Awareness Pro (9/13/12) has a terrific link to a Flavorwire article "10 awesome bookstores repurposed from unused structures". Here are a few examples but go check out the rest! I want to visit them ALL!!

In today's Shelf Awareness Pro (7/5/12) they included a story about an empty Wal-Mart that was converted into a new public library in McAllen, Texas! It's the length of two football fields!! How nice to see something built up instead of torn down.

Love these libraries!

I saw the link for this on Shelf Awareness (3/27/12) and it brought up a great article Reused Libraries Rejuevenate Communities. In the last few years a trend has developed where buildings that were originally used for something else have been renovated into new libraries. The results are quite unique, often save the area money and preserve a bit of history. These are just two examples from the article. Wouldn't you love to visit and just curl up with a good book?

Book Christmas Tree

I loved this feature last year on Shelf Awareness and I'm so glad they are doing it again! This is the Book Christmas Tree of the Day from Magers & Quinn Booksellers featuring a display from the University of San Francisco. Isn't it awesome?

Are you surprised? It's another tree!

I'm officially addicted to these trees! If you're sick of them just skip right over but I think they're so creative and very beautiful. This photo came from today's edition of Shelf Awareness 12/18/09. The tree was created by a library in South Australia and was made from used books, magazine pages for the stars and cassette tape for the tinsel. All of the materials came from old library stock left over from the last book sale. Now that's clever! How could I resist posting this one?
