Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, totally worn out and screaming,
"WOO HOO, what a ride!"

So, I was just wondering…

woman wondering

I went to the library yesterday to return a book and I brought another one home. I didn’t need to get any more but I was proud of myself for only getting one! I can’t resist books. I have so many good ones to choose from it’s driving me crazy.

I have a hard time deciding what to read next. I’m usually itching to start my newest books because they are fresh on my mind but I also have many great ones waiting patiently on my shelves. Some of them are for reviews and some are my own. If they are for reviews I try to read them in the order they were received unless they are for a tour or contest. I do keep track in a notebook and on a calendar. My choices really just depend on what I’m in the mood for. If I’ve read a few murder mysteries it might be time for a comedy. If I’ve just finished part of a series I might jump right into the next one to stay with the story. I never know for sure until it’s in my hands.

So I was just wondering how do you decide what you’re going to be reading next? Do you fly by the seat of your pants like I often do or do you have a schedule? I hope you have a pile of great books waiting for you too. Good luck choosing the next one!

  1. I think I read the same way as you do. I just grab whatever's calling my name unless I have a commitment.

  2. I don't have a schedule, but read whatever grabs my attention at that moment.

  3. I alternate between books I need to review (blog tours, author sent them, etc) and books I really want to read. I usually read about four books at a time, just because I like having options. I'll also give up on a book if I don't like it!

  4. I always do commitments first, but that's pretty easy because I don't accept that many - at most one a month.
At the beginning of the year I pull the books from my shelves that are for the challenges I've signed up for and they are given a special place in my bookcase right next to the desk. I try to find something I want to read from them (there are 2 shelves full) but sometimes there's a new or library book I just have to read. Don't ya wish you could read from morning til night 5 days a week?!

  5. I try to sneak in as many off the shelf books as I can between commitments. This year I am determined to make more shelf space. After all, it's almost October! You know, when the library has the big clearing out sale at the county auditorium. The more I get rid of, the more I can buy. Heheheheh. Yes, Virginia, there is a method to my madness.

  6. I usually choose what grabs my attention. Unless I have a review I need to do or a book club pick I need to read. But since the reviews are only for things that caught my attention in the first place, it doesn't feel too restricting.

  7. I think we were channeling each other today!! I feel the same way! At times I fly by the seat of my pants but I just recently made a google calendar to list when my books are due back and the order that I want to read them!!

  8. I think I am like you as well- I read my review books in the order that they come unless it is a tour etc. But sometimes I just grab the book that looks best to me at that moment!
