Mailbox Monday (started at
The Printed Page and now a traveling meme) is at
At Home With Books this month and is the gathering place for readers to share the
books that came into their house last
week (checked out library books don’t count,
eBooks & audio books do). Warning: Mailbox Monday can lead to envy, toppling
TBR piles and humongous wish lists.
I hope your holidays were very happy! I didn't get a single book but I didn't need any. (I didn't say I didn't want any though!) I've got plenty now plus the (small) pile from the library and all the free ebooks that keep teasing me. And now that the cold weather and snow have finally hit maybe I'll cozy up and get more of them read. I do need to take down the tree, put away the decorations and lots of other stuff but that's just not any fun. I hope you are enjoying your new goodies!

Unearthly by Cynthia Hand (ebook)
Bought on sale from B&N
In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel
blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and
faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to
her), but it means she has a
purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her
visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a
new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be
the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into
place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy,
Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries
to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters
unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between
honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her
vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.
Succubus Blues from Richelle Mead (audio)
Free from Audible.com
Succubus (n.) An
alluring, shape-shifting demon who seduces and pleasures mortal men.
Pathetic (adj.) A succubus with great shoes and no social life. See:
Georgina Kincaid.
When it comes to jobs in hell, being a succubus seems pretty
glamorous. A girl can be anything she wants, the wardrobe is killer, and
mortal men will do anything just for a touch. Granted, they often pay
with their souls, but why get technical?
But Seattle succubus Georgina Kincaid's life is far less exotic. Her
boss is a middle-management demon with a thing for John Cusack movies.
Her immortal best friends haven't stopped teasing her about the time she
shape-shifted into the Demon Goddess getup complete with whip and
wings. And she can't have a decent date without sucking away part of the
guy's life. At least there's her day job at a local bookstore--free
books; all the white chocolate mochas she can drink; and easy access to
bestselling, sexy writer, Seth Mortensen, aka He Whom She Would Give
Anything to Touch but Can't.
But dreaming about Seth will have to wait. Something wicked is at
work in Seattle's demon underground. And for once, all of her hot charms
and drop-dead one-liners won't help because Georgina's about to
discover there are some creatures out there that both heaven and hell
want to deny...
