Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, totally worn out and screaming,
"WOO HOO, what a ride!"

This was such a fun contest! I loved reading all of your comments about your favorite birthday traditions and gifts. There were so many touching comments. I hope you had fun writing them. If you haven't read what everyone had to say, check them out. They are sure to make you smile.

Thank you also for all of your kind birthday wishes. I don't usually bring it up or do much to celebrate because I have more fun doing for others on their day. I'm more comfortable giving than receiving. My husband just reminded me of that when I drilled it through his head that I didn't want anything again this year. We haven't exchanged gifts for the last several years except small, personal items. Well, that's the game plan anyway. My husband doesn't stick to that very well and he gives great gifts. I really, really appreciate it but I truthfully don't want anything and we need to spend our money on other things. I feel terrible when I don't get him anything for his birthday and then a few months later he gets me something. Not fair. He was better this year and almost stuck to the plan. He gave me a goody bag with nail polish, body lotion, foot lotion and some sweet cards. I told you he was thoughtful!

I also appreciate that my mom has my kids clean the yard and the porches each spring as their gift to me. That is my favorite gift even though they aren't crazy about it. Hubby did ask the boys if they would like to chip in for me to go for a hair appointment. I would prefer they not spend money on me but boy did I need to have my hair done! I went for my new spring "do" and got a hair cut and highlights. I had been sick all week and wasn't able to do much but I dragged myself to that salon. It had been a long winter and my hair could verify it. I wasn't missing that appointment, no way! And my mom is still making my kids clean the yard (hopefully). Woo hoo! They still called from their various weekend activities and wished me a happy birthday and told me they loved me. (*sniff, sniff*) Without force! That's huge for teenage boys, at least at my house. And after a day of special messages from family and friends I got to enjoy a quiet dinner out with my hubby last Saturday. It can't get much better than that! Happy birthday to me.

  1. Congratulations to the winners!

It sounds like you had a lovely birthday gift. I know it is hard to make an agreement to not spend on a birthday, and then to have your spouse go and do it anyway, but remember YOU are his treasure, and he wants to bless you like you blessed him.

I hear you about wintered out hair! I haven't gotten my hair done in MONTHS! I am finally getting it done on Monday! Yay!

I hope that you feel 100% better soon. :)

    Kelly :)

  4. Congratulations to the winners! I agree with you about the birthday gift - I would rather have someone do something for me - wash my car, cook me a meal, etc - than buy me a gift.
